Feedback from my Target Audience

This is the feedback from my audience about the opening of our movie:
I had uploaded the video onto my facebook page and the response was from the target we were aiming at.
Manny is a friend of mine who had helped and given me ideas to crop some of the footage out as it seemed time consuming which my group had agreed too as well.

What have you learnt about technology from the process of constructing this product?

In the beginning our editing our final movie we were going to use the IMAC and use final cut express but as I started editing with Imovie I started to feel comfortable editing. There was a variety of transition, continutity shot and different text titles. So as a group we had decided that we will use Imovie instead in order to imrpove the quality of the opening to our psychological thriller

Another reason as to why we decided to use Imovie would be because after finishing our project you can share them on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and youtube which is helpful because it is less time consuming but also the quality of the movie will be just as good as it will be exported and straightly sent to the websites in order to get feedback from our target audience. The reason Imovie will make the opening to your movie much more stronger which will then lead to the opening to be professional is because:

  • Variety of text titles
  • Professional transition shown in movies
  • Continuty shots, a range of colours and images
  • Quicker at exporting
  • Range of quality to be exported as
  • Split of clips or items that help with editing and finalising the movie
We had tried to adjust exposure and contrast in final cut express but this led to our movie looking animated then fitting in with the convention of a psychological thriller. This consequently led to our opening of the movie to look ameture. Imovie was a great way to edit our filming and cut to transition.

The process of editing in Imovie, it took quite a long time to adjust ad find new resources along the process of making and editing our psychological thriller opening:

What kind of media insitution might distribute to your media product and why?

As a group with believed that the paramount insitution was the right decsion instead of unviersal because the music of universal seems very upbeat and may not be a right start for our psychological thriller. Paramount has been associated with more horror, thrillers and psychologcail thriller then Universal has according to our research when comaparing our insitution and to finalise it.

During our storyboard we had decided to use paramount but as our movie opening progressed the decision in our groups had started to split. Othersbelieved that universal was relatable and a good way to start our opening. Whilst we believed that paramount was a better decision to make. We like the transition of the paramount and the way it glides up and creates a momentus scene when the logo is presented whilst with Universal the music seems to be very loud and often carries on too long. This institution has more of a tesion building effect because of its toned down colours where as in universal its bright and colourful and this does not match out genre. The music also does a massive contribution to this, as in universal its a happy jolly theme tune which doesnt match our genre. However the paramount institution has a tension building effect .

How did you attract or address your audience?

The psychological elements and representation within our opening such as the close up on the characters face when she believes she is being followed attracts the audience because they understand that this is a tensed moment within this scene, almost as if there is a cliff hanger which leaves the viewer wanting to know what is going to happen. Like most conventions in a psychological thriller the opening is usually disorientated and confusion until it goes into an establishing shot which I believe as a group we did but to an extent. The convention that we used to create this atmosphere and tension in this scene were the angle shots we had used but also our 'Fable' music which is an eerie musical box. This attracts our audience too because throughout the age group most teenagers have seen horror movies that have innocent music in the background. They have experienced this and knows that this is not a typical music box. When I asked the audience about the music they already knew that the music box was eerie and it had created tension amongst them.

We addressed the audience by adding a voice over. Incoperating a voice over into the opening of our movie allows us to enagage with our audience because of the rehotorical question at the end of te opening. 'You don't think I'm crazy, do you?' We also addressed our target audience but adding characters that were the same age as them so they can relate to the opening in some way.

Who would be your audience for your media product?

I think the audience for out media product will be teenagers and adults, it is suitable for both female and males and the age range that I believe our pyschological thriller will attract more will be teenager aged 15 to 19 and perhaps young adults from the ages to 20 between 24. The reason that it is suitable for this is because they will understand the beginning and for younger years it will be to complicating for them to understand but also the elements of tension can cause fear for them.
We had previously aimed it at younger teens such as boys and girls ages 12-15 but soon realised that maybe young teens will not be fond of psychological thrillers or the elements towards it. Although the opening of the movie does not show violence overall the conventions of a psychological thriller involves strong language and partial nudity. Although this decreases our target market on the other hand it allows us to create further tension and does not limit us on what we can put in.

When asking others in our group using a focus group we realised that people would rather watch a psychological thriller with their peers as young teenager may not understand the concept of what is happening in the beginning of our movie and their behaviour will show otherwise. Our target market choice has made the choices of our opening movies much easier. The opening does not have to neccessarily be in chronological order and the transition or the effect of the opening that we have put in such as the dream effect will be understandble for them. The language in our movie is relatable to teenagers and this is why our opening was successful with our viewers.
